Hi there! I’m Ruth Norman, and I’m thrilled to be joining Renaissance as a Learning Guide this year. I’ve been teaching for 7 years, but this will be my first in Colorado! I hold a Bachelor's in Special Education from Miami University of Ohio.
Before coming to Renaissance, I worked with 4th-8th grade students in specialized learning environments to support their emotional/behavioral and academic success. This was an incredibly rewarding experience, but in order to explore my interest in teaching math full time, I transitioned to co-teaching 6th grade math last year. Having struggled with math myself as a student, I’ve come to appreciate the power of a supportive, open-ended, engaging approach to learning! I’m passionate about helping students overcome challenges and discover the confidence and enjoyment in math that I found later in my own journey.
When I’m not in the classroom, you might find me exploring the great outdoors, perusing antique and thrift shops, or trying all the coffee shops in town. I also enjoy cooking and baking, playing board games with friends, and going to hockey games. I'm originally from Indiana, but moved to Ohio about 10 years ago. While I do miss my cornfields, nothing quite beats the mountain views out here!
Here’s to a great year ahead—I can’t wait to dive in and start this new adventure with everyone at Renaissance!
