High School Math

Hello everyone!

My name is Matt and I am excited to be joining the Renaissance team for the 2024 - 2025 school year. This will be my 9th year as a math teacher and I couldn't be happier with my new position.

My passion is seeing students learn new things about the world and themselves. When the light-bulb comes on, you can see it in the student's eyes. It is something that I can't get enough of. What can students do with this knowledge? How can new found confidence change the way a student views their situation? It is what I live for, and the possibilities are vast.

Mathematics is a subject that has always piqued my interest. It is my goal to help students unlock their own curiosity about the mathematics of the world around them. Curiosity can light a fire in the hearts of those who want to know. Every school year I am surprised by what students create to solve a problem. They are the innovators, creators, and problem solvers of the future. I strive to allow them an opportunity to stretch their thinking.

Outside of the classroom I can often be found with my wonderfully supportive wife. We go on hikes during the summer, and enjoy travel. We play board games, card games, and video games together. We enjoy time spent with friends and family. We also have three mischievous cats who fill our life with joy, fur, and purring.

My main two personal hobbies are fishing and disc golf. I plan to do both of these things several times this summer. I like all the Colorado sports teams and I hope to go to a game again soon.
